Press Briefing: Avoiding the “Spiral of Silence”

Super-majorities of people around the world want stronger climate action, as Covering Climate Now’s 89 Percent Project has reported. But they don’t hear much about climate change in the media or from friends, so they stay quiet. Now, new analysis from The Climate Majority Project shows that majorities also favor larger, systemic change — less consumerism, less polarization — but don’t say so because they too mistakenly think they’re a minority. The result? A self-reinforcing “spiral of silence” that blunts action.

At this CCNow Press Briefing, Caroline Lucas, former Leader of England’s Green Party and a Climate Majority Project adviser, will outline the paper’s chief findings, joined by Dr. Liam Kavanagh, the founding Co-Director of The Climate Majority Project.
